Vipshop Guidelines on Human Rights

Respecting human rights is an essential aspect for enterprises to fulfill their social responsibilities in the process of operation. Vipshop’s guiding principles on human rights demonstrates the Company’s attitude in dealing with the related issues involving society and various stakeholders.

1Introduction on Policies and Regulations

Vipshop respects and recognizes the provisions of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. Vipshop is responsible for taking concrete actions to respect human rights in accordance with the provisions of the Guiding Principles and avoiding human rights violations. Vipshop has developed a series of relevant internal management systems and regulations:

Ÿ   The Code of Business Conduct and Ethics

Ÿ   The EHS Management Policy

Ÿ   The EHS Management Committee Regulation

Ÿ   The Employee Health Protection Regulation

Ÿ   The EHS Training Regulation

Ÿ   The Safe Production Regulation

Ÿ   The Kitchen Fire Safety Management Policy

Ÿ   The Contractor Safety Protection Regulation

2. Areas of Practice

Vipshop's human rights practices cover the Company's key stakeholders, including employees, customers, suppliers, communities, and partners.


2.1  Employees

Ÿ   Provide equal opportunity in all aspects of employment and will not tolerate any discrimination or harassment based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, age, national origin, marital status, pregnancy or any other protected class.

Ÿ   Eliminate any form of forced labor and the use of child labor.

Ÿ   Protect the rights of employees for participating in corporate operation affairs and expressing opinions, hold regular staff representative meetings, and set up multiple communication channels to understand and adopt the views and suggestions of employees actively.

Ÿ   Provide employees with a safe and healthy work environment. Each employee has responsibility for maintaining a safe and healthy workplace for other employees by following environmental, safety and health rules and practices and reporting accidents, injuries and unsafe equipment, practices or conditions. Violence and threatening behavior are not permitted. 

Ÿ   Each employee is expected to perform his or her duty to the Company in a safe manner, free of the influences of alcohol, illegal drugs or other controlled substances. The use of illegal drugs or other controlled substances in the workplace is prohibited.

2.2  Customers

Ÿ   Continue to strengthen validation measures for authentic products, pay attention to each detail of the source of goods, the operation process, and the after-sales service, committing to providing consumers with healthy and safe products, comprehensively protecting the rights and interests of consumers.

Ÿ   Treat every customer equally. Respond to inquiries, opinions, suggestions and complaints from customers timely, and provide appropriate services to customers regardless of race, nationality, gender, age, social status and other factors.

Ÿ   Protect the privacy of customers. Establish and improve policies and systems for information security and privacy protection, continuously improve the construction of information security systems, fundamentally avoiding the occurrence of customer information leakage.

       2.3 Suppliers

Ÿ   All non-commodity suppliers and brand partners of Vipshop shall respect the human rights of their own employees. They shall abide by the laws and regulations of the country or region where the company operates in terms of employee remuneration, working conditions, elimination of forced labor and child labor, so as to provide a healthy and safe working environment for employees.

Ÿ   Adopt fair and transparent supplier selection mechanism.

Ÿ   Keep supplier information strictly confidential to protect the legitimate rights and interests of suppliers.

       2.4 Communities

To explore and innovate on sustainability programs based on community needs with focuses on fair education opportunities, gender equality and employment opportunities, leverage Vipshop’s business advantages to help these programs maximize impacts, and encourage employees to participate in volunteer service, contributing Vipshop’s strength for promoting the rights of disadvantaged groups.

2.5  Partners

Ÿ   Vipshop requires its partners to respect the human rights of their own employees and abide by the laws and regulations of the country or region where they operates in terms of employee remuneration, working conditions, elimination of forced labor and child labor, so as to provide a healthy and safe working environment for employees.

Ÿ   Vipshop actively seeks opportunities to communicate and collaborate with partners on human rights related issues in order to continuously improve industry performance in this area.



3Progress Report

Vipshop releases an annual corporate social responsibility report every year, and the related practice and our progress is elaborated in the report.
